Amplify offers two methods of rescheduling :
- rescheduling the entire project, or
- moving the dates of an individual task or milestone.
Rescheduling tasks and milestones can be done quickly by dragging the bar or the start or endpoint of the task or milestone to the desired point on the Gantt. You can also use the Task table to modify the dates of a task or milestone by double-clicking the entry.
If your project schedules are maintained in Microsoft Project or Primavera, or as an Excel file, you can import them and the updated dates will be reflected on the Gantt.
To reschedule the entire project at once in Amplify:
- Click the Tools button on the Schedule tab.
- Select Reschedule.
- Enter the number of days by which you want to reschedule.
A negative number represents rescheduling to timelines ahead of the previous schedule, while a positive number creates a delayed schedule. Rescheduling retains all internal task dependencies.
Rescheduling has to be done cautiously when you have dependent tasks that have schedule constraints. Often rescheduling causes key time constraints to be disrupted or disregarded. Hence it is a good practice to review the dependencies and reapply schedule constraints once you have moved the dates. When you reapply constraints within Amplify, the dates of the dependent tasks are readjusted so that they comply with the schedule constraint.
To reapply constraints:
- Open the Gantt that you have rescheduled.
- Click Tools...
- Select Apply Constraints.
Notice that the positioning of dependent tasks that had constraints have now changed and readjusted.
